The Mini-Extruder Hybrid is designed for miniature scale extrusion capabilities. This makes it the perfect solution for formulation development with small and expensive quantities of active ingredients in the laboratory.
During formulation development, often only small and often expensive amounts of active ingredients are available. On the other hand, many formulation trials are necessary to find an optimal formulation. These prerequisites require extrusion capabilities on a resource-saving miniature scale. For this purpose, Three-Tec GmbH has developed a Mini-Extruder Hybrid.
Thanks to a void volume of only 1.2 cm3 with a 5 mm screw diameter (L/D ratio 15:1) - the smallest of its kind in the world - the parallel twin-screw Mini-Extruder Hybrid has a very low active and target material consumption. This allows for the smallest preparations from as little as 0.5 grams. Since only very small residual amounts remain in the extruder, a high yield can be achieved with the available substances. The results can also be used optimally for reproducible scaling.
Thanks to the universal use of heating cartridges, cooling systems, die plates, pressure and temperature sensors, the unit offers the flexibility to convert from a 5 mm to a 9 or 12 mm screw diameter within a few minutes. Very short heating or cooling times of the compact barrels of 8 to 11 minutes and the optimised changeover in the hybrid extruder allow a maximum number of trials per day to be carried out and is thus ideal for operation in a research-oriented environment. Triclamp connections and bayonet locks guarantee time-optimised and trouble-free assembly as well as easy disassembly, cleaning and cleaning validation of the device.
