Resource-saving extrusion with laboratory extruders from Three-Tec

Our laboratory extruders enable very small batches from as little as one gram. This makes them ideal for formulation developments with small quantities of active ingredients.

During formulation development, often only small and often expensive quantities of active ingredients are available. At the same time, many formulation trials are necessary to find the optimal formulation. Laboratory extruders on a resource-saving miniature scale offer the perfect solution.

Small batches from as little as one gram
BWe have been developing and producing laboratory extruders from a screw diameter of 5 mm since 2005. The smallest parallel twin-screw laboratory extruder has a very low active ingredient and target material consumption thanks to an empty volume of just 1.2 cm3 with a screw diameter of 5 mm (L/D ratio 15:1). This enables very small batches from as little as one gram. As only very small residual quantities remain in the extruder, a high output can be achieved with the materials available. The results are ideal for reproducible scaling.

Thanks to the optimized design, the temperature required for melt extrusion is lower, which significantly reduces the strain on the active ingredient. Very short heating and cooling times of the compact barrels make it possible to carry out a maximum number of tests in the shortest possible time. The laboratory extruders therefore offer the ideal conditions for operation in a research-oriented environment. Triclamp connections and bayonet locks guarantee time-optimized and problem-free assembly as well as easy dismantling, cleaning and cleaning validation of the device in just a few minutes.

Maximum efficiency with the Hybrid laboratory extruder
We have developed the Hybrid laboratory extruder for a particularly efficient usage. The Hybrid extruder is built in the same housing as the proven standard extruder as a table-top version. As a combination device, however, it also offers a choice of two different extruder sizes. Three variations are available, each with a choice of two screw diameters (5, 9 or 12 mm). Thanks to the universal use of heating cartridges, cooling systems, die plates, pressure and temperature sensors, the device offers the flexibility to convert from a 5 mm to a 9 or 12 mm screw diameter in just a few minutes
